Package Overview

Package selection guidance compiled from public package information, community data, and project usage.

jwt_io is a Flutter/Dart package for encoding, decoding, and verifying JSON Web Tokens (JWT) according to the RFC 7519 standard. It enables secure transmission of claims between parties by providing tools to generate signed tokens and validate their integrity. The package supports multiple platforms including Android, iOS, Web, macOS, Windows, and Linux, making it ideal for cross-platform applications requiring authentication or authorization. It integrates seamlessly with Flutter projects via pub.dev.

Use cases

  • User authentication
  • API token validation
  • Secure data exchange
  • Session management
  • Authorization workflows
  • Token expiration handling

Key features

  • RFC 7519 compliant
  • Supports signing and verification
  • Cross-platform compatibility
  • Easy integration with Flutter
  • Lightweight and fast
  • Handles token expiration checks

Suitable for

  • Authentication systems
  • Secure API communication
  • Mobile and web apps
  • Backend service integration
  • Token-based access control
  • Applications requiring stateless sessions

Considerations

  • Requires proper secret key management
  • Does not handle token refresh logic
  • No built-in storage for tokens
  • Must be used with secure storage practices
  • Limited to JWT-specific operations
  • Not suitable for complex identity protocols

pub build coverage license

JSON Web Tokens are an open, industry standard RFC 7519 method for representing claims securely between two parties.

JWT_IO allows you to decode, verify and generate JWT.

Getting Started

Decode a token
main () {
  String yourToken = "Your JWT";
  Map<String, dynamic> decodedToken = JwtToken.payload(yourToken);

  /*
  If the token has a valid format, you will get a Map<String, dynamic>
  Your decoded token can look like:
  {
     "sub": "1234567890",
     "name": "John Doe",
     "iat": 1516239022,
  }
  */
}
Know if the token is expired
main () {
  String yourToken = "Your JWT";
  bool hasExpired = JwtToken.isExpired(yourToken);

  // You will get a true / false response
  // true: if the token is already expired
  // false: if the token is not expired
}
Get expiration date
main () {
  String yourToken = "Your JWT";
  DateTime expirationDate = JwtToken.getExpirationDate(token);

  // 2025-01-13 13:04:18.000
  print(expirationDate);
}
You can know how old your token is
// Token payload must include an 'iat' field
main () {
  String yourToken = "Your JWT";
  Duration tokenTime = JwtToken.getTokenTime(token);

  // 15
  print(tokenTime.inDays);
}
